What Bladnoch 13 Year Old tastes intensely sweet, bright, and dessert-like, with a flavor profile heavily driven by its maturation in first-fill ex-bourbon barrels. Because it is bottled at a higher strength of 46.7% ABV and un-chillfiltered, it feels much richer and more substantial on the tongue than standard, lighter Lowland whiskies. The nose is extraordinarily welcoming and sweet, completely free of any harsh alcohol burn. It hits you with warm honey, vanilla custard, and crisp green apples, balanced by the delicate, grassy floral notes of honeysuckle and freshly cut grass. On the palate, it has a thick, viscous, and creamy mouthfeel that coats your teeth. It tastes like a bowl of Honey Nut Cheerios covered in rich caramel and maple syrup. Beneath that heavy bourbon-like sweetness, you will pick up juicy orchard fruits (stewed pears and cherries) alongside a unique herbal spike of Parma violets and ginger candy. It transitions into a clean, refreshing, and slightly drying finish. The heavy sugars give way to a crisp wave of barrel spice, lingering oak char, and a touch of white pepper. |

Why Most Lowland whiskies are known for being pleasant but one-dimensional, light, and hyper-traditional. Bladnoch stands out because of its bizarre, highly debated "lactic house style." Due to their unique distillation setups, the spirit features a faint, wild, and savory yogurt- or cheese-like creaminess underlying the honeyed sweetness. |
