	Who Boukman Botanical Rhum is a unique partnership between a social enterprise and local family distilleries. The brand was launched in 2016 by Adrian Keogh, an entrepreneur from Ireland, and Josette Buffaret Thomas, a native of Haiti and president of the non-profit Haiti Futur.

	What Boukman Botanical Rhum is dry, complex, and intensely herbal. Unlike spiced rums that rely on vanilla and sugar, this is a botanical rhum infused with wild barks and woods. It tastes more like a sophisticated gin or a herbal amaro than a typical Caribbean rum. You’ll immediately smell bitter orange peel, dry woods, and a hint of white pepper. There is an underlying "grassy" scent from the fresh sugarcane juice base. It is bone-dry (no added sugar). You’ll taste savory notes of allspice, clove, and cinnamon, but they are layered over deep, earthy flavors of bitter woods and bark. It has a unique "medicinal" quality that is very refreshing. Because it uses Clairin (Haitian white rhum) as its base, you get a slight tropical funk—hints of green banana and fresh cane. The finish is long and warming with a lingering citrus zest and a pleasant, forest-like bitterness.
	Why In a category (spiced rum) notorious for being loaded with sugar and artificial coloring, Boukman is a purist's dream. It contains no added sugar. This makes it incredibly versatile—it’s essentially a rum that acts like gin—capable of being used in a Martini or a Negroni where other rums would be too sweet.
