Who Ginja Mariquinhas Cherry Liqueur is produced by Licóbidos, a family-owned company based in Portugal. The recipe was originally created in 1949 by Abílio Ferreira de Carvalho in a small tavern and grocery store located in the village of Sanguinhal. The tavern remains open to this day, and the family still uses the exact same recipe. |

What Ginja Mariquinhas has a rich, sweet, and intensely fruity flavor profile balanced by a sharp, crisp acidity. Unlike many cherry liqueurs, its 12-month maceration process yields a deeply complex flavor that highlights the authentic characteristics of the Morello sour cherry. It has a powerful, unmistakable nose of freshly crushed, ripe sour cherries, and the taste is thick, velvety, and luxurious on the tongue, with a heavy liqueur consistency that is satisfyingly smooth without feeling cloyingly sticky. An initial wave of rich, sugary wild-berry sweetness immediately transitions into a refreshing, bright tartness (acid freshness) that keeps the palate awake. |

Why The bottle's label, featuring a traditional Portuguese filigree heart, is a tribute to Fado—Portugal’s deeply soulful, melancholic national music. The name "Mariquinhas" comes directly from a famous, centuries-old Fado song character who represents the bohemian, artistic, and resilient spirit of old Lisbon. |
