	Who Rothman & Winter Créme de Violet Liqueur is produced by Destillerie Purkhart, a family-owned distillery. The distillery was established in 1932 and is currently operated by the third generation of the Purkhart family.

	What Rothman & Winter Crème de Violette is unmistakably sweet violet, almost identical to the flavor of Choward’s Violet candies or French pastilles. Because it uses a grape brandy base rather than neutral grain alcohol, it has a subtle "wine-like" depth and a hint of dark fruit jam underneath the floral notes. It is heavy and syrupy, with a velvety mouthfeel that coats the palate, and while it is sweet, it is bottled at 20% ABV, which provides enough alcoholic "structure" to prevent it from feeling like a simple floral syrup.
	Why Rothman & Winter Crème de Violette is basically the "Lazarus" of the cocktail world—it brought a dead classic back to life. For decades, the Aviation cocktail (one of the most famous pre-Prohibition drinks) was "broken" because nobody could find real violet liqueur in the U.S. In 2007, this specific bottle was imported from Austria, single-handedly sparking the global revival of that iconic purple drink.
