What Rothman & Winter Elderberry Liqueur tastes like a concentrated, dark berry preserve with a sophisticated earthy undertone. It is much deeper and "moodier" than the bright, floral flavor of elderflower liqueurs like St-Germain. t has a dense, inky dark berry flavor. Imagine a mix of blackberry, blackcurrant (cassis), and cooked plum, but with a unique tartness that keeps it from being too sugary. Because it uses a base of rowanberry eau-de-vie, it carries a distinct marzipan or bitter almond aroma that pairs perfectly with the dark fruit. |

Why Most people are used to the light, tropical, floral taste of elderflower (like St-Germain). Rothman & Winter uses the actual berries, which are their "botanical cousins" but taste completely different. It's deep, dark, and earthy—more like a sophisticated, wine-like elixir than a flowery syrup. One of its coolest production secrets is that it doesn't just use neutral grain alcohol. It starts with a base of rowanberry eau-de-vie (fruit brandy). Rowanberries have a natural bitter-almond or marzipan aroma, which gives the liqueur a "secret" nutty layer that makes it taste much more complex than a standard berry liqueur. |
