Matured uniquely on fallen limbwood from the orchards of the American Chestnut Foundation, Rites of Fall Rye offers a fascinating flavor profile that revives a style of whiskey that disappeared with the functionally extinct American chestnut tree. On the nose, it delivers a pleasant scent of cinnamon and subtle nutmeg. On the palate, it opens with rich notes of honey, warm baking spices, nuts, and stone fruit, evoking a sweet "cinnamon toast" flavor. Rather than carrying the aggressive, black-pepper bite of a typical American rye, it leans smoother and sweeter, rounding out into a complex finish highlighted by candied orange peel.
