Who Xtabentún D'Aristi is produced by Casa D'Aristi, an artisanal craft distillery in Mexico. The company was founded in 1935 by Don Carlos Aristi, who created the brand after traveling the Yucatán Peninsula to study Mayan culture and its ancestral beverage, balché. Today, the Aristi family continues to manage the distillery, maintaining traditional methods that avoid artificial additives. |

What Xtabentún (pronounced SHTA-ben-TOON) has a very specific, bold profile that is essentially a balance between honey and anise. You will immediately smell the intense, herbal aroma of green anise (licorice), followed by a floral, wild honey scent that is much more aromatic than standard grocery store honey. The taste is thick, syrupy, and velvety on the tongue. The first flavor is a sweet wave of honey and caramel, quickly joined by a cooling, minty anise snap that cuts through the sugar. It leaves a long, warming aftertaste of licorice and light floral notes, with just a touch of the "peppery" heat from the Mexican rum base. |

Why The name itself comes from a Mayan legend about a woman named Xtabay. It was said that her body was transformed into these sweet-smelling flowers after her death. Local lore suggests that the nectar of the Xtabentún flower has a mildly intoxicating effect, which is why the liqueur is often called an "aphrodisiac" or a "dream-inducing" spirit in the Yucatán. |
